Needhams are considered a traditional Maine candy. The little known ingredient in these luscious morsels is potatoes, hence the generic nickname Maine Potato Candy. Needhams were created in Portland, Maine by candy maker Rev. George S. Needham in 1872. Traditional Mainers have been making them ever since.
Today, Nana’s Need’ums are created from a Needham recipe handed down from my grandmother and are handcrafted and hand dipped much the way Rev. Needham did in 1872. This old Maine candy formula encompasses the contrasting textures and flavors of smooth dark chocolate, full-bodied, real vanilla and sweetened, shredded coconut. These rich candies are created from the best ingredients. Each candy is carefully hand dipped to ensure quality and as such may present with slight variations. We hope you will take the time to enjoy these creations to the fullest and sample our other fine handcrafted confections.
We also create Buckeye confections which are smooth, melt-in-your-mouth, creamy balls of peanut butter surrounded by rich, semi-sweet chocolate.
